Randolph Police to Host Open House This Week Regarding Upcoming Police Officer Exam
Open House on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Randolph PD
RANDOLPH — Chief William Pace is pleased to announce that the Randolph Police Department will be hosting an open house this week for those who are interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement.
The open house will be held on Thursday, Jan. 31, at 6 p.m. at the Randoph Police station, 42 South Main St.
“This event is a great way for applicants taking the state exam to have their questions answered by people who have gone through the process,” Chief Pace said. “Anyone who is interested in becoming a member of the Randolph Police Department is encouraged to attend.”
The application deadline is Tuesday, Feb. 5, with an examination fee of $100. A late fee of $50 will be assessed to those who apply after Feb. 5. No applications will be accepted after Tuesday, Feb. 19.
The written examination will be held on Saturday, March 23.
Each applicant’s exam location will be provided in their notice to appear email after successfully applying and paying for the exam.
This entry-level service exam establishes a list of eligible candidates to fill vacancies in civil service municipalities, MBTA Transit Police and non-civil service jurisdictions.
Applicants may choose to have their results apply to both municipal and MBTA eligible lists or the municipal eligible list only.
Candidates must be at least 21 years of age on or before the date of the exam and have a high school diploma or equivalency certificate approved by the Massachusetts Department of Education, or three years of experience in the armed forces of the United States with last release or discharge under honorable conditions. There are some special exceptions and arrangements available for active duty military personnel. For more information. visit the state’s civil service website.
The written examination consists of three parts: the Written Ability Test (WAT), the Life Experience Survey (LES) and the Work Styles Questionnaire (WSQ). The WAT includes areas of verbal expression and comprehension, problem sensitivity, deductive and inductive reasoning, and information ordering. It is used to measure the cognitive abilities that have been identified as essential to performing the duties of a Police Officer. The LES consists of multiple-choice questions related to the candidates’ past history and experience that are of potential relevance to successful performance of entry-level Police Officers. The WSQ assesses certain motivational, value-related, and attitudinal characteristics that are of potential relevance to successful performance of entry-level Police Officers.
