News Media Logistics for the Wake of Watertown Firefighter Joseph Toscano

RANDOLPH — The wake for Watertown Firefighter Joseph Toscano will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, March 21, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church (211 N. Main St.) in Randolph from 4-8 p.m.

Members of the news media should stage by 1 p.m. to ensure parking and to minimize obstructions for the mourners.

The news media will be allowed to park across the street from St. Mary’s Catholic Church on North Main Street. The parking lot with Caffe Bella and Five Guys will be open to press, but please DO NOT park in the spaces directly in front of stores or restaurants. Use spaces farther away from the shops for news trucks and vehicles. Spaces will be marked by traffic cones, and Randolph Police Officers will be on site directing news media to the proper parking spots.

Members of the news media not driving marked company vehicles should be prepared to present valid photo identification to access media parking.

The Randolph Police Department and Chief William Pace advise the public that at least one lane of North Main Street will be closed between Cottage and School streets starting at 2 p.m. on Tuesday. Motorists not attending the wake should plan an alternate route.

A firefighter walk-by will begin at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

The public is welcome starting at 4 p.m.

There will be no news media or cameras allowed inside the church for the wake. Cameras must remain across North Main Street on the business side. 

Boston Firefighter/Public Information Officer Steve MacDonald is the contact on site for the wake. From time to time, friends and family who desire to be interviewed will be brought by Firefighter MacDonald or his representative to the media staging area.

Firefighter Toscano’s body will remain at the church overnight, and firefighters will stand watch all night.

Members of the news media should remain in position if possible, but vehicle swap will be allowed. Vehicle swap is highly discouraged between the hours of 2 and 10 p.m. on Tuesday.

The funeral procession will depart Randolph for Watertown at 9 a.m. Wednesday.
