Randolph Police Arrest Attempted Murder Suspect After Morning Raid

ANGEL ABYMAEL ORTIZ, AGE 22, OF MATTAPAN

RANDOLPH — Chief William Pace reports that the Randolph Police Department arrested and charged a Mattapan man today in connection with a shooting that occurred last week.

ANGEL ABYMAEL ORTIZ, AGE 22, OF MATTAPAN was arrested and charged with:

  • Armed Assault With Intent to Murder
  • Assault and Battery by Means of Discharging a Firearm
  • Attempted Assault and Battery by Means of Discharging a Firearm
  • Carrying a Firearm Without a License
  • Possession of a Loaded Firearm
  • Discharging a Firearm Within 500 Feet of a Dwelling

ORTIZ was arrested this morning following a raid at his Mattapan home that was conducted in cooperation with the Boston Police Department.

On Monday, Oct. 23, at 7:28 p.m., Randolph Police responded to a report of a shooting on Alfred Terrace. Upon arrival, officers found a 19-year-old Randolph man who had been shot and suffered injuries that were considered serious but not life-threatening.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the victim had been shot while riding in a vehicle, and a more in-depth investigation led Randolph Police to identify ORTIZ as a suspect.

ORTIZ was taken into custody without incident, and he was scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon in Quincy District Court.

Randolph Police are continuing to actively investigate the shooting.
