Randolph Police Arrest Men on Drug and Gun Charges

RANDOLPH — Chief William Pace reports that the Randolph Police Department arrested two men yesterday on firearm and gun charges.

BRANDON VARELA, AGE 20, OF AVON was arrested and charged with Possession of a Class A Substance With Intent to Distribute (Heroin) and Possession of a Class B Substance With Intent to Distribute (Crack Cocaine).

Additionally, VARELA was wanted on a pre-existing warrant out of Norfolk Superior Court in connection with an alleged shooting last July.

JALEN WILKINSON, AGE  22, OF RANDOLPH was charged with Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License.

At approximately 4 p.m. yesterday, Randolph Police were conducting surveillance in the Rosemont Square apartment complex as part of an effort to locate VARELA and take him into custody on the active warrant for his arrest. Officers later observed VARELA’S vehicle enter the complex with VARELA driving and a second male, later identified as WILKINSON, in the passenger seat.

Officers subsequently attempted to stop the vehicle and pursued as VARELA drove at a high rate of speed through the apartment complex before coming to a stop. WILKINSON then attempted to flee on foot before acknowledging officers’ orders to return to the scene.

A search of WILKINSON’S clothing allegedly yielded a .25 caliber handgun, and he was then taken into custody without further incident. Officers also took VARELA into custody on the warrant and, during a subsequent search of his clothing and vehicle, located a bag containing suspected heroin inside his vehicle, and a bag containing smaller baggies of crack cocaine and heroin.

Both men were taken into custody without incident and were held pending their arraignment in Quincy District Court.

These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
