Randolph Police Investigating After Laptop Computer Thrown into Reservoir

RANDOLPH — Chief William Pace reports that the Randolph Police Department is investigating after a laptop computer was thrown into the Randolph reservoir and later recovered over the weekend.

At approximately 11 p.m. on Saturday, a town employee was working at the pumping station at 275 Pond St. at the Great Pond Reservoir, when the worker noticed a blue Subaru sedan parked near the water.

The worker saw a woman near the vehicle throw a small object into the reservoir, making a loud splashing sound. It was too dark to see what the object was. The woman then got in her vehicle and drove away.

Randolph Police were notified and responded, but could not locate anything.

On Sunday afternoon, the Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council (MetroLEC) Marine Unit dive team responded to the reservoir and recovered the laptop.

The laptop was subsequently taken to the Randolph Police Department to see if it could be analyzed.

At this time, the initial investigation does not indicate any criminal activity, other than the laptop being thrown into the reservoir. Dumping waste and foreign objects into the reservoir is strictly prohibited.

At no time was there any threat to the drinking water in the reservoir.
