Randolph Police Provide Safety Tips for Seniors

RANDOLPH — Chief Anthony Marag and the Randolph Police Department would like to share safety tips for seniors in the community.

These safety tips help elderly residents maintain their health, well-being and quality of life while also providing a sense of security and confidence as they age.

Safety measures seniors can take include:

  • Install Home Security: Install sturdy locks, peepholes and security systems to deter intruders; such as: cameras or an Alarm System with motion detectors
  • Emergency Contacts List: Keep a list of important contacts, including family members, neighbors, friends and doctors in an easy-to-find place.
  • Medication Management: Organize and label medications by using a pill organizer container or medication management app
  • Fall Prevention: Remove tripping hazards, and install handrails around entrances to homes
  • Fire Safety: Install smoke detectors, have a fire extinguisher and plans to escape in an emergency
  • Scam Awareness: Learn about common scams and be cautious when providing personal information over the phone or computer
  • Medical Alert System: Consider a wearable medical alert device that can be activated after a fall or other incident to call for help
  • Carbon Monoxide Detector: Install a carbon monoxide detector and test batteries to make sure the system is working correctly

Randolph Police would like to share two upcoming events for seniors at the Randolph Intergenerational Community Center, 128 Pleasant St.:

  • Sept. 26 – Randolph Services Fair from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.: Community members are encouraged to attend to learn about the different organizations and services available to Randolph residents. The event is free and open to all.
