Robert Emerson Sworn In As Newest Commander of the Randolph Police Department

RANDOLPH — Chief Anthony Marag is pleased to announce that Robert Emerson was sworn in recently as the newest commander for the Randolph Police Department.

Commander Emerson was sworn in by Town Clerk Cheryl Sass during a ceremony at Randolph Town Hall on Thursday, May 13 with his family present. He has served the citizens of Randolph since 1995, holding a variety of positions and ranks in the department.

“Over the years, Commander Emerson has made a tremendous impact on our department in many ways,” Chief Marag said. “He is a valued and respected leader, which is something that is extremely important for the commander position. He embraces a collaborative and unified approach to policing, and I know he will perform his new duties with the same level of professionalism and dedication that he has shown his entire career.”

Commander Emerson attended Randolph Public Schools and graduated from Randolph High School in 1987. He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in sociology and legal studies, and received a master’s degree from Western New England College in criminal justice administration.

He joined the Randolph Police Department as a patrolman in 1995 and was promoted first to juvenile detective in 1999 and later to sergeant in 2002. Most recently, he was promoted to lieutenant in 2010.

He has also served as a D.A.R.E. officer, an instructor for the department in Use of Force, Defensive Tactics, and Firearms Training, and most recently was assigned as the Firearms Licensing Officer.

“Commander Emerson has had a long and successful career in law enforcement, and he not only embodies what it means to be a police officer but he also knows the Town of Randolph and its resident so well having lived here for so long,” Randolph Town Manager Brian Howard said. “I personally cannot think of a better person to rise through the ranks of our department, and we all wish him the very best as he moves into this new part of his career.”
